They can charge the same as a D700 or just slightly less. It wouldn’t undermine the D700, because full frame and cropped bodies are useful for different purposes. Additionally, the D300 is over a year old now, and the new 5D is coming out, and so has the 50D. That means Nikon has to keep moving too. Video + 24mp + D300 performance = way better than the 50D. An ultimate amateur camera, but not as good as the D700 for lowlight, fullframe and D3-ish purposes. If someone honestly expects to make poster sized prints, then the megapixels matter. But more likely amateurs will want the option of 24mp just to keep up with the Joneses + Video in a D300 body. D700 will still be a better camera when it comes to normal sized prints and normal blowups. Honestly, even the 5D II will be too much camera + crap, when you’ll be able to get a D700 for a $500 less at equal performance. I know video is kinda nice to have. But its not what photography is made of. And in my opinion not worth $500 bucks.

Henry, its ok baby, no need to get offensive, baby. Just take the rumors as they come, sweetheart, and believe what you will. You will learn a lot from this site, honey, and I’m sure that you’ll soon be adding to the exchange of “information” as it spills from the mouths of people that have nothing better to do but make stuff up that ultimately gives the administrator a bad rap because he reported it not knowing someone made it up and then someone in one of the response posts comments about how the posting of such a post devalues this site because what was regarded as potential “hot” information turned out to be a fake but the administrator had no idea otherwise because the guy put tape over his d40 and was claiming it was the d12000 and that the d12000 incorporates a lot of the groundbreaking features of the d3. Anyway, baby, I think you should just calm down and enjoy the what if’s, the what could be’s, and the wow’s that are all part of the rumor world that nikon rumors happens to be a part of being that the name nikon rumors has rumors in the title of the name nikon rumors. So, ok. but I still think your contention holds merit. Anyway, ok. Remember, even if they don’t release a camera you can always upgrade!

r-dog is not my real name. DUH! (lol). But I would appreciate your kindness toward my dad as he is dead. Also, he’s a travel agent. I apologize though, as I was not trying to berate or belittle your comment. I was just adding to the excitement of the upcoming months during which a new camera and/or lens will be announced by nikon (or even canon). Again, I am sorry, and I pray my dad will forgive me (he is on a cruise right now… and he’s an atheist. I’ll call him later)

I think your post was both informative and not a complete waste of time. I hope it is right! Your speculation as to the public response to the possible release of a new camera and/or lens in the coming months seems to be a little bit more than speculation and I would love to know your source. Again, I understand your contention of nikon releasing something. However, my contention is that prior to the Revolutionary War, the economic modalities, especially in the southern colonies, could most aptly be characterized as agrarian, pre-capitalist. I believe that might describe the rumors coming from nikon.

r-dog. Is that your real name? Did your father name you that? If so, I’d love to meet him and tell him that his son is an epic loss that feels the need to berate legitimate posters about their speculative Nikon rumors.

I understand that my post is not of the caliber of Jeff or Thommy, but I feel there is some merit there. Again, my contention is that Nikon WILL release something new, either a lens or a camera, in the coming months. This release will be followed by simultaneous excitement and anger of the general public. Many will rush to place their pre-orders, while a few will post on message boards about what the new camera/lens is lacking and what Nikon should do about it. Those that are unhappy with the announcement will make it known that they wil “hold out for something better” or “jump ship to Canon”.

How reliable is your source? I heard that a d3/d300/d60 successor will probably be announced within the next few months. I’m not sure about this, but that is what I got from my source as well who I believe is a beta tester for nikon. Again, I am just speculating from the conversation I had, which went exactly like this:

me: do you know anything about a d3/d300/d60 successor?
my dad: huh?

to me, that means one will be announced.

not sure about the lens though, but that is a solid guess. I have my fingers crossed for a [some shorter focal length]-to-[some longer focal length] that has a variable aperature that is slow enough that even picture of a tree has motion blur.

This just in: Nikon is planning on releasing a camera that is better than the D3, D300, or D60 some time within the next several months. My prediction is that there will be more and possibly better features. We may see better image quality, although that is based on pure speculation.

There also may be a new lens announcement by the end of 2010. This prediction/rumor is based on my inside source, who was once known to have used a Coolpix between 2003 and 2006.

If I hear anything that peaks my interest I will report ASAP.
