This looks utterly fake. I had an F2 that had dials like that. A new SP would never be machined out of old metal like that. It would be the new metals and fibre carbon layer technology.

      of course it’s fake.

this shouldn’t have even been posted as a rumor.

I totally agree. Stop polluting this site with things like this. What’s so hard about searching for the word “nikon” and “rumor” and post everything you find? This site could have some potential, just don’t spoil your chances.

I will continue to report Nikon rumors, no matter if you like them or not – remember this site is not made only for you. The post has 2 sentences – it will take you 10 seconds to read it and check the picture. Where is the problem?

I enjoy the obvious fakes – not only as entertainment, but as an insight into how our contributers spot them. There’s some amazing photoshop expertise out there!

I am just trying to say that it “pollutes” whatever contents I expect to find here (rumors). There are one million fake and photoshopped photos of Nikon products – are you going to post all of them?

I might have mistaken this site for something else, so pardon me. And for you people who ‘enjoy’ a photo like the one we’re talking about here, I have a question: What’s so funny or enjoyable about it? It’s not extremely unlikely, like these with Nikon logos spraypainted on them, it’s not credible enough to be totally fooled, so?

            I’ll save you some bandwidth.

Yeah, seriously, nobody should be complaining about this. What are you doing here?

I kind of enjoy the mock up images. They keep me entertained when I’m bored in class.

what!? Whats the point of a retro rengefinde if its made of carbon composites. most, if not ALL nostalgics about it is lost then.

Aha! I have a better question: What’s the point in making a retro camera anyway?
I find cameras built only for collectors not for real use are a waste of resources. Thankfully this one’s a fake.

Rumor has it that it will shoot digital AND film, not to mention video. Of course, rumors may not be true…..

… and you will be able to use it as cell phone and mp3-player as well. Not to mention as the most expensive paperweight.

    IF THIS IS REAL:
Why does it have a film rewind lever?
Why does anything on it to do with digital look like its been put on in microsoft paint?
    Isn’t Nippon Kogaku dead?
Surely there would be more shutter speeds.

Writing out “SP DIGITAL” on the camera would be utterly classless for something trying to evoke nostalgia.

this is called humer, not rumor
obviously some here aren’t aware of the concept of humor
it’s difficult to explain but when you get it, humor i mean, it can be quite funny

      oh my gosh
when i wrote humer i meant humor
i don’t want anyone to confuse it with bumer, which was a great show about a dog in the 70’s, which featured nikon cameras.

Nikon released a special edition SP rangefinder a few years back. This is a pict of that product–not digital, of course. The actual image is taken from the popular Camera Quest site: http://www.cameraquest.com/nrfblsp2005.htm

Scroll down to see the original image.

I’m going to vote for not even bothering with rumors that are obvious fakes, especially poorly executed ones. What’s the point? (I suppose if a fake was brilliantly executed or highly imaginative, that would be an exception.)

Any site (or any publication for that matter) gains credibility by exerting editorial control. That’s what (in my opinion) this site should do as well.

I vote to keep the rumors flowing. This was a obvious fake and anyone who believed it was even close to truth should probably not be allowed near a computer, much less a digital camera.

    >>I vote to keep the rumors flowing. This was a obvious fakeI vote to keep the rumors flowing. This was a obvious fake<<

From my point of view this wasn’t a fake–a photo purporting to be real–but a joke (a photo obviously not legit. made for humor’s sake). The text around the photo where you found it made it clear that it was a joke among friends with no claim to being real.

For me that makes its value here very low if not zero–a rumor site is just that, a site about rumors. But this wasn’t even that…real rumors are presented as being potentially true–the people who photoshopped the SP had no intent to deceive or make any claims about an actual product.

I think you should certainly exclude such discoveries in the future–pure noise with no hope of a signal (not to mention hurting the site’s credibility as a source for rumors).

I appreciate seeing ALL of the fakes…even the bad ones like this. As indicated above, any NR reader can simply decide to not spend time reading stories that don’t interest them.

That said, I also agree with some of the comments above; if Nikon built a digital rangefinder, it SHOULD be made of metal like this. And it SHOULD have the film advance lever, but repurposed for something different. (It would be cute if cocking the lever a bit was the on-off, as on some earlier nikons).

  15. I should be shooting

I think it’s fun, either way, and I’d rather be aware of such material as this floating on the Web than not. The RD-1 has a winding lever, BTW. It actually cocks the shutter. It supposedly saves battery power. If anybody takes things so seriously as to get upset, then I feel they’re being too serious. It’s not Nikon News, it’s Nikon Rumors ;)
