I did a few test shots at f/1.4 and it looks very soft on my Nikon D80.

The quality isn't all that impressive wide open, especially that its mounted on cropped sensor (D80)! I really hope that is just a bad copy. The picture with the boy is full of PF. That copy would probably be totally horrendous on D700. I still haven't found a good copy of 50mm either 1.4 or 1.8 that will be usable wide open, it must be my luck!

Since noone answered your question: EXIF data is additional data which is being appended to every JPG file any digital camera creates. (and to raw files as well) EXIF data will tell you later on which camera settings had been used for the picture. For example: whether the camera was set to program auto exposure or aperture priority; it'll tell you shutter speed and aperture as well as ISO speed rating; that and much more information ...
Hope this helps you

I have made a deposit on one of these at Samys Camera in Southern California a few days after it was announced.

Today I was in this store picking up some prints and the camera department sales person that took my deposit stated that they have been told that this lens will ship sometime towards the end of the month. I asked him where he obtained his information and he stated that he received it from their Nikon representative. He went on to say that if this is correct, that I should have the lens by the end of the month or the first of December. This appears to be in line with the original Nikon press release.

I hope this is all correct, but I will just have to wait and see.

This may be a dumb question, but what can the EXIF data tell you? Either the picture looks good or it does not. I thought the pic's looked pretty good.

Yep, more fringing.
I had already pointed this out in the telephotos shot from the other samples post, and everyone was grilling me for pointing it out...
Oh well, we'll see how the production 50 1.4 will hold. Keepin' my fingers crossed...

Checked out some of the pictures at this site and I am definitely seeing some chromatic aberration. The magenta fringing is exceptionally bad in the one of the boy on the steps of the store. Look at the contrasting lines of his jacket.

You can go full-screen with them. However, without EXIF data it's somewhat fruitless. Are those at f/4 or f/1.4 ?
