First pictures taken with Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S

The first pictures taken with Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S appeared on flickr.

“This 50mm f/1.4G AF-S was a pre-production sample and closer examination of the exposures reveals its calibration is slightly off (backfocused), but the center sharpness and amount of CA at wider apertures is excellent.”

Currently only Adorama is taking pre-orders for this lens and the release date is expected to be in December.

Is it me, or isn’t that 1st photo with all the telephotos lying down full of color fringing?
I see purples and blues in the horizontal high-contrast areas.
For you 50mm 1.4D owners out there, how does that compare to your photos at F/2?

Well, go to the flickr page, download the full-res images, and loog again.
I’m not saying it’s bad, the image looks very good, but the fringing is there.

Yeah, I zoomed in and it’s there, but I had to zoom in a lot and it was only a pixel or two wide at most. I cal it good for a 1.4 lens that is still in development.

pictures are available for download at full resolution but no EXIF, how would we know if these photos was taken with the new 50mm?

Locate “Taken with a Nikon D3″ in lower right, then click “more properties” below.
What I’ve seen in the EXIF – the lens is a 50/1.4 and “lens type” is “6″, not “2″, as 50/1.4D is.

What a small world, I met Vilhelm about year and a half ago and he was the one who teached me the basics about photography while taking a trip with company pohotography club.

I was at Photo Plus and I did play with this lens as well. It was quite smooth and focused a heck of a lot faster than the old 50 1.4. It also feels built a bit more solidly than the old. I was looking to get the Sigma 50 1.4 because of its great reviews but after testing this new Nikon version I will wait. The colors are great and from what I could gather on the LCD the CA is improved.

Dudes, this is a pre production model. Read Ryan Brenizer’s blog, he went to the expo and Nikon requested everyone not to take home photos taken with the 50mm. They haven’t finalized everything yet and the lens is likely to undergo more changes.

I can’t wait to see the production version compared to Sigma’s. I’m told the Sigma is remarkably sharp wide open.
