They make some pretty impressive movie cameras.

Modular, can be upgraded and very serious stuff.

They have the capability and are not held back by "old models".

This is the re-announcement of Scarlet, the DSLR crossover they pre-announced over the summer and then pulled the announcement after the 5DmII announcement when it became obvious that Scarlet as pre-announced was uncompetitive.

Expect a whole lot of vapourware and an actual set of specs sometime after Pentax and Sony release their video-capable DSLR's to the market.

No information regarding the sensor? If I remember well, it was rumoured to be a 25 MP at some point.
I actually thought they would look for a partner not involved (yet) in the video business and Nikon would have been a prime candidate. I can't really see them successfully entering the DSLR market on their own supply.
Interesting though. Thanks.

I did also read about the DSMC to be announced (or more leacked) after 1st jan 2009.

I don't know (didn't have time to look for info) if the DSMC is going to be targeted to a wide market as DSLRs are or it will remain for "professional" use (and "affordably") only.
Maybe RED's CEO said something about that, but I didn't read it

I'm pretty sure that the annoucement on the 13th is for Scarlet and Epic... both video/cinema cameras. The details for the "DSMC" are supposed to be released in January...

This is a announcement of a announcement. I've heard and seen lots of announcements, but the new product always seems to get scrapped for yet newer technology and, yet another announcement.

Announcements should be withheld until the product is actually ready for release, or at least finalized and in production. Otherwise, we wisely will ignore them.
