These kind of features (Movie/Video) are going to be seen more often and better on DSLRs.

It's a matter of time to get better quality and full control of the recording settings.

RedOne can make better results, that's obvious at this time, but for lot of photographers/movie makers (I'm not talking about Hollywood's or some other big movie makers) the potential of recording Good HD Video with DSLR is Huge, and promising.

Many advantages (including price against a RedOne's, interchangeable and Pro lenses against Camcorders', low light recording, shallow depth of fields, etc) are already known and can not be compared to a traditional prosumer video camera or camcorder at all...

There are at least some sample movies from a DSLR well worth watching in the net, that show the potential (when used professionally). One, for instance, is:
http://vincentlaforet.smugmug.com/gallery/6042742_wZKiA#377930419_dgxvY

There are aspects to be improved, better implemented, etc., but the manufacturers must be working on (if not, then they will loose sales in near future...)

Admin: sorry if the post is repeated, I got some not posting/or errors, please delete it if duplicated

very cool.

video is a great bonus for still photographers. And being able to shoot with nikkor lenses should yield some outstanding results.

I hope nikon and canon continue to add this feature to the higher end of their DSLRs.

To be honest, we're quite a long way from getting mind-blowing quality out of DSLRs. Firstly, you have the problem of skew (which, supposedly, the 5D Mark II almost gets rid of); secondly full manual control, including both variable frame rates and shutter speeds, e.g. 1/48th second, otherwise it looks to smooth; and thirdly, the video out of these cameras is quite soft, doesn't look like true 720p/1080p. No matter what, the quality out of something like the RedOne will be better, and so this will be a good solution more for the prosumer market; therefore, decent autofocus is needed, as well as good video compression in case uncompressed is not feasible.

One of the largest problems is ergonomics; you really can't film with a camera that shape, unless you get the RedRock Micro setup, which is large and a hassle to have to take about. The viewfinder is also unusable - which is a very large problem, as to get anything decent you need an external monitor/evf.

Wonder if Nikon will ever release a Camcorder with interchangeable F-mount lenses. Now THAT I would buy. Of course, even better if it could record to MiniDV's instead of Flash Cards.

For what it will probably cost for this contraption plus camera, you could buy a couple of Canon's HV20's or HV30's, which have great image quality AND take MiniDV's.

Even with prosumer cameras, sound recording quality isn't exceptionally high. It is a cheaper, better and more convenient solution to use a camera like this and have an external sound recording system.

DSLRs have a lens system (and imager size) comparable to the finest motion picture cameras, plus exposure and focus control that surpasses anything on offer in the video world. Once DSLRs are able to record quality video (i.e. uncompressed 1080p or beyond) to a high-speed, tethered storage device (doable on the cheap for a while now), the quality will be so spectacular you could shoot a feature film with one.

A modern DSLR has to have 80% of the systems needed for a video camera *anyway*, so it makes sense for manufacturers to consider adding video support.

Imagine if the D4 could shoot video that looked better than the results from a Panaflex cine camera, and as a complete freebie extra feature. Who then would still *want* a consumer or prosumer video camera, with their toy lenses and awful user interfaces?

If it doesn't get in the way, video from a DSLR is a compelling (and probably inevitable) feature.

Looks like for the near-term the main limitation in DSLR video is going to be high quality sound recording/syncing.
