   That is not a good sign Richard. This lens should not be any louder than others of the same build quality. It certainly is not silent, but the description of the noise as if it were sand grinding is enough to tell me that it is not right. If it were me I would return the lens, as selling it with a defect might be dicey.

   Also, Live View focus does indeed need a lot of work. It fiddles around for about 5 seconds before finally settling in. I suggest focusing prior to Live View or just dialing it in manually.

   I ordered the Body Only also from Amazon. I just got an email this morning stating the same thing the previous poster posted :

   UK. My D90 body only arrived today from Jessops. I pre ordered from them as they got the Nikon 18-2000mm quickly.

   On this UK site they claim that the “Body Only” version will be out on August 30, same as Amazon wrote above and also what Nikon confirmed to my local camera store in my earlier post.

   They will ship anywhere ..I can recommend them ..I have used them extensively the last six years .. but we are generally more expensive over here in norway

    talked to my cord camera guy again, said he knows it won’t be delivered on a saturday so it should be this thursday or next monday. obviously hoping for thurs, but as bad as i want the darn thing it’ll probably be monday…

    Amazon has turned off even the ‘Alert Me’ option for the Body only. Apparently, Cameta Camera is selling it used (already) via Amazon. Is that why the Alert Me disappeared or might Amazon be swamped with orders with no direction from Nikon as to when they might be fulfilled?

    I became familiar with this site only today trying to track down a date for D90 body only. I lucked out. I called both of the local camera shops (not counting Ritz) that I shop at. The first one had kits and said he didn’t know when they’d have bodies. I checked with the 2nd shop, and he had one kit left…and when I told him I wanted body only, he said no problem…he’d just pull the lens out and sell me body only for the suggested price of $999. So I left work early and ran and got it. Major upgrade from my D70. I don’t think Ritz or Best Buy will be able to pull kits apart, but if you’re in a hurry as I was for body only, it can’t hurt to ask local shops if they’ll break a kit apart.

    I’m guessing that all of the current D90-body only boxes out there for sale are just kits with the lens removed, and that the “real” D90 body-only boxes haven’t arrived.

    Amazon.co.uk are also doing the kit for £719 (which I’ve ordered). There must have been a fair few people doing the same because by the time my order got processed the stock had been depleted, so I’ve got to wait a few weeks before I get mine delivered.

    Also, for those looking for the body only: wilkinson cameras (http://www.wilkinson.co.uk) have it at £599 (though the stock has been and gone (but will presumably be back).

    Pricegrabber says Dell has the D90 body-only in stock. When I click on the Dell link, Dell says the D90 is out of stock. Still, if Dell had the D90 body-only in-stock at some point (a big IF I guess), then that has to mean it’s here or almost here in the US right? I don’t think a company like Dell would be taking apart D90-kits to sell bodies only.

    Amazon US has the D90 body?

    Nikon D90 body only is already available in Europe and Australia. Yesterday it start showing up in Amazon US. My guess is that those bodies taken from disassembled lens kits. Some of them are listed as used for $999.95 and the new one is listed for $1198.95. Note that those are sold by third parties and not from Amazon direct. …

    Thought UK readers would like to know that playdotcom have the d90 with 18-105 kit lens for an amazing £719.99 which includes delivery. Looks like its in stock too.
    They had the body only version on sale for £620 last week but that has gone back up to £700 and it’s not in stock yet either
    That’s a massive £130 below rrp , very tempted to order this and not wait for the body only.

    Get it straight. No Nikon Dealer has offered a NEW D90 body for sale in USA at MSRP $999 as yet. (9 Oct 08)- Some scams out there though.

    The sites that say they have them are lying – they merely take orders.

    I just got confirmation that my D90 body only was just shipped from buydig.com! It was ordered about 3 weeks ago.
