Yes, I’d bet money it’s a local ad-campaign. Roughly translated, “top time for a Nikon” (I would have translated that as “am besten zeit” rather than ‘hoechste zeit’, but the nuance’s of languages being what they are.. Nothing about schwarz (black).
The bag is a regular Nikon item (at least in Europe). Designation is CF-EU4 (Nikon internal code is VAE210BV). Prices in Germany (incl. 19 percent VAT) range from ca. 23,– Euro to 49,–.
Yes, case CF-EU4, worth between 23,– and 49,– Euro plus 2 x 2 SanDisk 2GB Ultra II, each roughly(!) 15 Euro.
At one of the big German photo retailers (fotokoch.de) the RRPs for the kits with and without the FATBOX are identical. However, with the above mentioned retailer the kit with the AF-S DX 3,5-5,6/18-55 G ED lens costs an additional 40,– Euro for the FATBOX, the kit with the AF-S DX 3,5-5,6/18-135 G IF-ED costs 30,– Euro more for the FATBOX (the other two kit prices are the same with and without the FATBOX).
If you go to the German web site and use a magnifying glass to look at the lens you will see that it is only a AF-S 18-55mm DX VR lens. I think that the picture has been distorted to give the appearance of something else. Also, you can see the small grooves that are on the focus ring of the 18-55mm lens.
This appears to me to be something that you would see sold in Costco or Sams Club. They always seem to have some type of package deal for the Holidays.
No one believes you because we still do not know the source of your information (unless I missed it). Your comment sounded like a personal opinion. You could be correct, but I (and everyone else here) would like to know more about it. Thanks.
Our last guess about the Nikon D60 “Black Gold” got busted today by an email from someone who works for Ritz Camera:”Okay, Here’s Ritz promo kit procedure for those who are convinced the German photo is all Black Gold will be. When a promo kit is created, we get the big outer boxes as a separate shipment. The boxes do have a SKU, but it’s a store supply code. We then pack the kits ourselves with regular stock merchandise. The code I found begins in 54, which is lenses, cameras, and large accessories like motor drives. Note that a lot …

The Kit lens looks huge?! is that the new D90 kit lens, or the 50 1.4 AFS?!
They always do that… it looks more “professional”…
So if this is the one, it will be called FatBox in Germany and Black Gold in the US. Yea, marketing gimmick.
Doubt it, looks cute, but all it is is a bag and 2 cards…..
Looks more like a local campaign to me.

Nice bag, where can I get one?
Sometimes, a Nikon rumor is apparently just a fabric case and a bigger cardboard box.
If this is something for the holiday market, why not leave package a second lens, the memory cards, and throw in a case that will hold everything?
Just like I called it, a case and some accessories.
