Nikon has been working with Zeiss for over a year maybe two already, so why is it "complete trash"

A Nikon camera using 3rd party lenses - file this under complete trash. Nikon would never do that. It would tell the world that they can not make lenses. If this glorified P&S was made, rest assured it would have quality Nikon optics.

Hi and welcome! I have not heard anything lately on this rumor and I don't expect an official release any time soon.

Love this site - my first post, sorry not to have chimed in sooner.<br />I doubt that the existing Zeiss T*ZF lenses would be used on a digital RF camera since they are SLR lenses. The retro focus distance on an SLR lens needs to be much greater than on a range finder to allow clearance for the swing of the mirror. Range finder lenses are typically much smaller diameter and length than equivalent focal length & aperture SLR lenses. It would seem to be counterproductive to put those large lenses on a small range finder body.

You are correct - sorry for the misunderstanding. What I had in mind was the shape, not the functionality, but I guess even that is not close.

You do realize that the Sigma DP-1 is NOT a rangefinder, right? It has nothing in common with any Leica M, or even any of their compact rangefinders. The DP-1 is just a compact point and shoot. (a poorly designed and executed one that has a decent sensor) -- a format with value that I would like to see more of, but its' not a rangefinder. A Nikon rangefinder, in the style and format of the Nikon S, will also have NOTHING in common with the Sigma DP-1.

Sounds good and expensive (for me at least). I wish and hope Nikon will release the above combination in AF-S for DSLR.
